Imam Ali (peace be upon him)
Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was the first Imam of Shia Islam and the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He is known for his wisdom, justice, and deep devotion to Islam. Imam Ali was martyred on the 21st of Ramadan in 661 CE, after being struck by a poisoned sword while praying in the mosque of Kufa. His assassination was carried out by a member of the Kharijites, a radical group at the time. The martyrdom of Imam Ali is a moment of deep sorrow for Muslims, especially Shia communities. He is remembered for his famous sermons, letters, and sayings, many of which are compiled in Nahj al-Balagha. His life symbolizes courage, faith, and sacrifice. Every year, millions of Muslims commemorate his martyrdom with mourning ceremonies and prayers.
